We’ve found ourselves reflecting back on 2019 and the trends that we saw emerge in luxury homes. To say that 2019 was a year for experimentation would be an understatement — while many trends from earlier years are still around, there are definitely some new trends that have made their way into the spotlight. Statement lighting, bold sinks, smart home features, vintage accessories and more are all quickly becoming part of today’s luxury aesthetic.
It’s been said that money can’t buy happiness, but we beg to differ when it comes to real estate. In luxury homes, there are a number of amenities that appeal to the masses — and the higher the price point, the more of these features buyers are expecting.
If you’re in the market to buy or sell a luxury home in the near future, here are some of the features you should be looking for.
Smart security
Beyond privacy, luxury home buyers are seeking the element of security in a home. Various elements of the home, including lighting and security cameras, can easily be controlled from a smartphone or tablet. We also see many high-end safes built into closets for smaller valuables, such as jewelry, watches, or handbags.
Downsized pools
While pools are still expected in the luxury market, today’s homebuyers don’t want a giant pool taking up their entire back yard. Instead, many people are opting for smaller decorative plunge pools. Homes are being built larger, taking up more space on the lot and leaving less room for anything else — so while a pool is still expected, buyers are looking for less of it.
Guest suites
Gone are the days of the simple guest room; instead, today’s home buyers are looking for full-fledged guest suites. And while it doesn’t have to be completely detached from the rest of the house, many are looking for an area downstairs off of the garage, or a separate bedroom with an en-suite that can be used for guests or visiting family, or even a live-in nanny or housekeeper.
Everything in pairs
Another trend that we’re seeing in luxury homes is the trend of two. What we mean by that is that it’s no longer one stove, one dishwasher, one washer, and dryer — appliances are coming in pairs, and they’re all upscale. After all, we’d say that true luxury is never having to wait for clean clothes.
